WORCESTER RACECOURSE

Worcester racecourse – known to local residents as Pitchcroft – was formed in 1718 and hosted Flat racing up until 1966, but now stages jumps racing only. Situated on the banks of the River Severn in the city centre, Worcester is one of only a handful of courses that offers racegoers the opportunity to witness National Hunt racing throughout the summer. Often used by trainers to introduce their better novice hurdlers and chasers, the course rarely fails to attract decent-sized fields and therefore delivers competitive racing.

WORCESTER RACECOURSE MAP

Worcester map

Flat, left-handed with easy turns. Portable fences take little jumping, though many runners show a tendency to go right in the home straight. Long home straight should, in theory, give hold-up horses plenty of time to recover ground, but when conditions ride on the firm side in the summer months it pays more often than not to race handily. Beware betting on close finishes as camera is situated some way short of winning line.
