FFOS LAS RACECOURSE

The Welsh Champion Hurdle is one of the biggest races to be staged at Ffos Las and was revived in 2010 (had formerly been held at Chepstow). It was won by Oscar Whiskey in 2011 before he finished third in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. The race was often under threat from bad weather given it was held in February, however, and it was moved to a new slot in October in 2016. Ffos Las’s other big race, the West Wales National, has also been moved from the depths of winter and is now held in April. As well as National Hunt racing, there is also Flat racing that takes place during the summer.

FFOS LAS RACECOURSE MAP

Ffos Las map

Ffos Las is a left-handed track and essentially galloping in nature. Approximately a mile and a half in extent, the course is very flat and fair with a long home straight, including an extension to enable a straight track for races over five and six furlongs, though the ground can get extremely testing when at its worst.
