A typical Hunt Cup in a lot of ways, the field splitting into 2 groups, with stalls 2-11 staying far side whilst the rest came near side, whilst there were several in the larger group who encountered traffic problems, but the effort of the winner was decidedly out of the ordinary, recording a margin of victory unusual for one of these ultra-competitive Ascot handicaps and surely destined for a higher grade, the pair who led home the stands-side contingent also both upwardly-mobile 4-y-os, giving this form a typically solid look; pre-race it seemed as if a high draw was an advantage, but this contest and the following Windsor Castle suggest there isn't much to choose between either flank, any bias more likely to be related to where the pace is.
