A couple of non runners deprived the Queen Mary of a rare maximum field, but this was still the largest number to line up since 2012, though only 15 of them had won a race, leaving 11 maidens and plenty that had something to find to be competitive in an average renewal, more than half the field sent off at 40/1 or bigger; the field split into 2 groups, nearly all the fancied runners in the larger near-side one, the pace stronger over there, the far-side runners unable to get in a blow, just 2 of the first 12 home on that side, the sixth and seventh, who were also the only maidens in the first 11; Crimson Advocate gave the US a fifth win in the race since 2009, though the first for a trainer other than Wesley Ward, the filly prevailing on the nod from the strong-finishing runner-up, the pair pulling clear, though the form looks towards the lower end of the scale of recent winners of the race.
