With as many as 18 making their handicap debut this was unsurprisingly a deep contest, as it usually is, 7 of the first 10 doing so with the front pair taking their form to a smart level, the winner looking a group performer in an event that takes a little bit of explaining; they split into 2 groups with the 11 lowest drawn runners going far side, that contingent slightly ahead at halfway, though it was the stand-side group who came firmly to the fore, providing the first 7 home, with Magical Sunset best of the other side, the majority from that group either worth marking up or best excused the run, some also meeting trouble; the pace was a strong one with both sets of leaders going off too hard and it suited the closers, both Candle of Hope and Novus worth marking up considerably from those ridden prominently, winners bound to come from this.
