As is usually the case, this is a contender for the strongest handicap of the season, almost half of the field successful on their latest start and plenty arriving on the up as a result, the first 3 all doing so and improving again with Docklands and New Endeavour, who raced on opposite sides of the track, having this between them from 1f out and taking their form to a smart level; they split into 2 almost equal groups with stall 17 the dividing point, the far side seeming to hold the advantage, responsible for 7 of the first 10, the winner therefore worth marking up considerably having pulled well clear of the rest stand side, the hat-trick seeking runner-up from that group, Surely Not, also better than the result, as was the well-backed Quantum Impact who went all the way from the favoured side to the other when mounting his challenge, plenty from the latter pack having excuses; all in all this is a contest to follow for the coming months with the majority yet to take on their elders, and it will throw up plenty of winners.
