Despite challengers from Hong Kong, Australia, France and the US there was a smaller field than usual for one of the major sprints of the season and that played a part in how the race developed, the pace not as strong as you'd expect in a race of this standing, 25/1-shot Signs of Blessing having no competition for the lead, and a handy position was an advantage in a race of fine margins, less than half-a-length covering the first 5; the result does have a slightly muddling feel to it and, as such, the form is rated lower than the usual Group-1 standard, and if the principals meet again later in the season the result could well be different.
