The second running of the Commonwealth Cup attracted a much smaller field than the inaugural race, perhaps an element of novelty value a year ago, though the winners of the main trial races as well 3 of last year's 2-y-o winners at this meeting were in a representative line-up, save for Gifted Master, who ran in the Jersey instead; the winner didn't achieve anything like the level Muhaarar had shown in winning last year either, though as he was an outstanding sprinter, there is no discredit in that, in any case a very confident ride underselling her superiority over her rivals, most of whom will come up well short in other races at this level, the runner-up possibly excepted.
