That 13 were willing to take their chance is indicative of the fact that there's no standout miler in Europe at the present time, an open division all told, several of them having beaten one another in the past, and, even with the Canadian-trained mare Tepin in the line up, in terms of pure quality this wasn't as good as many Queen Anne's in recent memory and it's no surprise that the form rates lower than the 5-year standards; with several disappointments on the day, it wasn't actually quite as competitive a race as might have been expected either, but it produced a thrilling finish between Tepin and another recent Group-1 winner in Belardo; early on they raced in 2 groups, with the 5 drawn highest more towards the near side than the bigger pack, but before halfway they'd merged and the percentage call is to think that it made no difference even though 3 of the first 4 were part of the smaller group initially.
