Like the King Edward VII this year’s Ribblesdale was rather turned on its head, acting as a trial rather than a consolation for the Oaks, taking place 2 days earlier than usual to allow extra recovery time before Epsom, and though it was a weak Group 2 on paper - 5 of them renewed rivalries after contesting a poor renewal of the Lingfield Oaks trial - it produced a clear-cut classic contender, Frankly Darling confirming the impression she’d made when breaking her maiden just 15 days prior - all 11 fillies had already had an outing this season - having her rivals easily covered entering the final 1f, despite being one of several who’d raced freely off a steady early gallop.
