A smaller field than usual for the Queen's Vase, perhaps understandable given the delayed start to the season has meant so many horses haven't yet had the chance to prove themselves incapable of mixing it with the best at around 1½m; it was an up-to-scratch renewal in terms of the winning performance, however, Aidan O'Brien continuing his dominance of the race as Santiago proved himself a smart stayer at the end of a soundly-run race, conditions placing the emphasis firmly on stamina at the trip.
