An important moment in the career of Battaash as he bagged the only premier European 5f prize that had hitherto eluded him, though this didn't tell us anything new about him, just about everything in his favour, including the occasion - vastly different to the usual Royal Ascot jamboree - while this was very much a substandard renewal in terms of depth, just the third time since the race became a Group 1 in 2008 that it wasn't contested by a previous winner, and a reproduction of either of his pair of second places to Blue Point in the race previously would have been good enough to win it; the field raced in 2 slightly separate groups, the first 4 coming from the slightly smaller one closer to the stand side.
