With Reverence and Captain Gerrard late defectors due to the going, this was an unusually small field for the King's Stand and, with the likes of Marchand d'Or and Sakhee's Secret waiting for the Golden Jubilee Stakes later in the week, plus the fact that the clear form pick Fleeting Spirit failed to fire, ultimately, for all last season's second, third fourth and fifth tried again, not the strongest of renewals, either; nonetheless, the likeable Equiano struck a rare blow for Spain, his victory not the surprise the betting might have suggested; the field split into 2 groups (stalls 12-15 raced far side), though overall the draw seemed not to be of any great significance.
