Although missing Timeform's Champion Stayer of 2007 Septimus, this still looked a strong renewal of the Gold Cup with last year's first 4 all reopposing, among them the winners of this year's Yorkshire Cup (Geordieland) and Henry II Stakes (Finalmente), as well as the leading French stayer Coastal Path, but they were all once again upstaged by Yeats, who confirmed himself one of the best stayers of the modern era, becoming the first horse to emulate Sagaro and complete a hat-trick of wins in this event; Le Miracle set no more than a fair early gallop, but it still developed into a thorough test of stamina with the pace picking up from halfway, the 3 market leaders fighting out a thrilling race in the straight.
