The international challenge wasn't so numerically strong as has been the case in recent years but it was still as significant as ever, the South African-trained Shea Shea's exploits in Dubai this spring marking him down as above the standard it takes to win a normal King's Stand, and with him running more or less up to that level it took a high-class effort from the pick of the European brigade to lower his colours; the main body of the field came down the centre of the track (Spirit Quartz raced alone on the stand rail) before 2 groups began to emerge 2f out, the winner and third both finishing fast from off a strong pace nearer the stand side while the runner-up comitted for home slightly earlier towards the centre/far side.
