a makeweight in Group 1 races at 2 yrs and seemingly seen to maximum advantage in the Musidora, was a revelation on her ninth start, producing a performance among the best in the Oaks this century, under a much more patient ride than at York, stamina on both sides of her pedigree, that coming fully into play perhaps for the first time, over an extra 2f; held up, travelled well, headway on bridle early in straight, led 2f out, edged right, quickened clear, kept on well final 1f, impressive; her dam is sister to one Arc winner in Found, no surprise to see Snowfall aimed at that race, given how well she handled the ground, though other top races at this trip are likely to be on the agenda in the meantime.

seemingly fully exposed as below the standard required to make an impact, ran a fine race to finish runner-up, clearly with much more stamina than might have been expected from her pedigree, holding on much better than the others that raced prominently, though getting right over to the rail was probably to her advantage; led, travelled well, quickened entering straight, headed 2f out, left behind by winner, kept on final 1f.

sweating beforehand, emerged best of those that ran in the LIngfield Oaks Trial, suited by a greater test of stamina, making her effort on the inside in the straight probably not an advantage, so potentially a little better than the result; in rear, travelled well, headway entering straight, not clear run over 2f out, kept on well final 1f, nearest at the finish.

upped markedly in trip, had shaped so well in the Guineas, but she didn't seem to have learnt much from that experience, still noisy and green beforehand and showing traces of inexperience in the race as well, coming rapidly into contention early in the straight but then not picking up off the bridle; dropped out, travelled well, effort entering straight, good headway over 2f out, ridden, ran green, not quicken; she should stay, though it may be connections choose to drop her back in distance, given she came from a similar position to the third and fourth, getting into the race more rapidly but not staying on so well.

shaped better than the bare result, as at Lingfield promising more than she delivered, perhaps just not so much of a stayer as might be expected, raced on turf only on soft ground so far; held up, travelled well, headway over 2f out, ridden over 1f out, no extra; she gives the impression she still has a better effort in her at some stage.

A representative field for the Oaks, with the principals from all the main British trials as well as a pair that made the frame in the One Thousand Guineas in the line-up, though the level of form shown generally short of what is usually required, the prospect that one might emerge from the pack given an increased emphasis on stamina clearly there, that it might be about the most experienced filly in the field that made that improvement not obvious, other than on a stout pedigree, Snowfall producing a breathtaking effort, winning by the widest margin in the long history of the Epsom classics, seemingly full of running at the line too, soft ground after rain all day perhaps exaggerating her margin of superiority, that the first 2 were the pair right against the rail from 2f out perhaps flattering her a shade too, though the performance looks on a par with Love last year and behind only Enable among recent winners of the race; the pace was largely sound with a brief steadying before Tattenham Corner, only the runner-up of those that raced prominently maintaining such a position in the last 2f, the trio behind her coming right from the back of the field, the field coming over to the stand rail in the straight.

SNOWFALL (JPN) a makeweight in Group 1 races at 2 yrs and seemingly seen to maximum advantage in the Musidora, was a revelation on her ninth start, producing a performance among the best in the Oaks this century, under a much more patient ride than at York, stamina on both sides of her pedigree, that coming fully into play perhaps for the first time, over an extra 2f; held up, travelled well, headway on bridle early in straight, led 2f out, edged right, quickened clear, kept on well final 1f, impressive; her dam is sister to one Arc winner in Found, no surprise to see Snowfall aimed at that race, given how well she handled the ground, though other top races at this trip are likely to be on the agenda in the meantime.

TEONA (IRE) was well held in first-time hood, upped in trip, still keen, though less so than at York, much softer ground perhaps the key to her underperformance; held up, took keen hold, shaken up 4f out, left behind early in straight.

LA JOCONDE (IRE) was well held, outclassed as much as anything; prominent, shaken up entering straight, weakened over 2f out.

DUBAI FOUNTAIN (IRE) strong in the betting, was well held, as were the others that ran in the Cheshire Oaks, though she just looked as if she didn't handle the track, ill at ease in the straight once ridden; handy, not settle fully, shaken up over 3f out, weakened over 2f out, eased; her form last time clearly took a knock, but she still has the potential to make an impact in races over this trip and further later in the summer.
