A competitive - though not vintage - Irish Leger made more interesting for the presence of the Ebor hero Fujaira Prince, who took the step up in grade in his stride but found last year's winner Search For A Song too strong late on; the pace was sound and stamina was tested.

SEARCH FOR A SONG (IRE) given a 7-week break since her step back in the right direction (over an inadequate trip) here last time, proved at least as good as ever as she became the first back-to-back winner of this race since Vinnie Roe in the early-2000s; held up, headway when had to pick way through 2f out, challenged entering final 1f, stayed on to lead last ½f; she's still lightly raced over this sort of trip and is likely to stay 2m (entered in Long Distance Cup), seemingly more relaxed (in hood) these days.

FUJAIRA PRINCE (IRE) had well and truly earned his spot at this level, improving with nearly every one of his 5 starts in handicaps, and he essentially ran as well as he did when winning the Ebor, not as strong at the finish as the 2 he split, admittedly after seeing off a couple of earlier challengers, something to consider with his next start in mind (entered in Long Distance Cup); prominent, produced to lead 3f out, tackled entering final 1f, no extra last ½f.

TWILIGHT PAYMENT (IRE) couldn't land the hat-trick up in grade but shaped well after 9 weeks off, lacking a change of gear at a crucial stage and not ideally placed; raced wide, in touch, every chance entering straight, not quicken through gap over 1f out and then forced to switch entering final 1f, stayed on; he may meet the winner again in the Long Distance Cup back over 2m, though he's also in the Melbourne Cup again.

BARBADOS (IRE) ran up to best, the first of the main pack under pressure but sticking to his task; waited with, driven 4f out, kept on; worth a try at 2m.

PASSION (IRE) backed at long odds, wasn't good enough up in grade, this a lot different than when dictating in a fillies Group 3 last time; in touch, ridden 3f out, weakened over 1f out.

SOVEREIGN (IRE) failed to repeat last effort after 8 weeks off, that form - in a 3-runner race - not solid; led, headed 3f out, beaten over 2f out.

MICRO MANAGE (IRE) went backwards from reappearance, a shame given he's clearly fragile, a horse who may not fulfill his potential; mid-field, shaken up 3f out, weakened 2f out.

RAA ATOLL showed nothing after 15 months off; in rear, struggling 5f out.
