There could have been a different feel to this long-standing Group 1 event, run a couple of months later this season and open to 3-y-os for the first time since the mid-80s, though Armory's presence for the classic generation didn't prove of any great significance as stable companion Magical readily repeated her victory in last season's renewal, the third dual winner in the past 10 years after So You Think and Al Kazeem.

MAGICAL (IRE) had sidestepped a meeting with old rival Enable in the King George at Ascot 24 hours earlier to repeat last season's victory in this race, similarly uncomplicated tactics employed as when winning the Pretty Polly here 4 weeks earlier; made all, shaken up over 2f out, quickened clear approaching final 1f, kept up to work; she'll have plenty of options for the second half of the season, perhaps starting with the Irish Champion Stakes in September, another race she won in 2019.

SIR DRAGONET (IRE) shaped similarly to last time (and the time before that), still crying out for another try at 1½m, though running just about as well as he ever has in chasing home his high-class stable companion; slowly into stride, held up, going well when not clear run 2f out, forced to switch left, took second 1f out, kept on, no impression on winner.

SEARCH FOR A SONG (IRE) unsurprisingly found the test inadequate but at least got back on track, connections presumably working backwards from Irish Champions Weekend, where she'll likely bid to repeat last season's victory in the Irish St Leger; soon steadied, pushed along over 3f out, still last entering final 1f, ran on late.

ARMORY (IRE) upped in trip after a further 7 weeks off, was the only 3-y-o to take advantage of the different circumstances around this season's renewal and ran well on form, picking up more minor money in a Group 1 event, his position barely changing throughout the race; fourth, ridden entering straight, carried left under 2f out, one paced.

LEO DE FURY (IRE) faced a stiffer task in this grade, the form of the Mooresbridge having taken a few knocks in the intervening 7 weeks; chased leader, stumbled after 1f, ridden over 3f out, weakened final 1f.

BUCKHURST (IRE) faced a stiffer task in this grade, taking a small backward step, though there are certainly more Group races to be won, including at 1½m, at least away from the very highest level; chased leader, ridden under 3f out, weakened final 1f.
