A representative field for the Coronation Stakes, with the form of all 3 major Guineas put to the test, the first 3 from Newmarket, the Pouliches winner and the third at the Curragh all in the line-up, the Irish 1000 winner Fallen Angel the most notable absentee and likely to have had a big say in proceedings had she been here, judged on the performance of the runner-up; the pace was no better than fair, a handy position looking an advantage.

PORTA FORTUNA (IRE) confirmed the improvement shown when runner-up in the 1000 Guineas on reappearance and then some, looking sharper all round, holding a handier position, impressing with how she went through the race and then responding well to pressure to peg back one who enjoyed first run, incidentally taking her record at this track to 2 wins from as many starts after her win in the Albany on this card in 2023; she's a tough, likeable filly and sure to continue to give a good account.

OPERA SINGER (USA) matched the pick of her 2-y-o efforts with her reappearance under her belt, in the process paying quite the compliment to Fallen Angel, who was a comfortable winner at the Curragh; pressed leader, went on early in straight, headed well inside final 1f, kept on; she's typically widely entered up, including in the Falmouth, though there's a good deal more stamina on the dam's side of the pedigree than would be guessed from the dam and grandam's record, a step up in trip on the cards, with connections even mentioning the Arc as a target.

RAMATUELLE (USA) ran creditably, though as at Newmarket she looked stretched by the trip, even off just a fair pace on firmish ground and a turning track, effective at 1m and capable of winning a good race at it, but surely now worth a try back over shorter; waited with, travelled well, short of room over 2f out, shaken up after, took third 1f out, effort flattened out.

ELMALKA was sent off at significantly longer odds than the pair she'd beaten in the Guineas and she failed to confirm placings, much less well suited by the run of this than she had been by a strong gallop at Newmarket; held up, shaken up 3f out, stayed on approaching final 1f, never on terms; will be suited by 1¼m; may yet do better.

SEE THE FIRE fared a lot better than she had in the Guineas, running her best race, a good platform on which to build for the rest of the campaign, with a step up in distance surely on the agenda; in touch, travelled well, shaken up 2f out, wandered, not quicken, kept on final 1f; will stay 1¼m.

FOLGARIA (IRE) had something to find in this company and wasn't disgraced, not ideally placed the way the race developed either; held up, shaken up entering straight, made no impression.

SKELLET (IRE) looked in good order, but ran to just a similar level as on her reappearance, no obvious excuses; led, took keen hold, headed early in straight, shaken up, weakened 1f out.

CONTENT (IRE) ran about as well as she had in the Pouliches, again unable to land a blow, although this time the run of the race didn't go her way; steadied at the start, held up, shaken up entering straight, made no impression.

ROUHIYA (FR) on firmer ground than previously, was well held, leaving the impression she might have been amiss, though connections were unable to offer an explanation to the stewards; handy, travelled well, shaken up 2f out, not quicken, weakened over 1f out, eased.
