For a number of years the Nassau has struggled to recapture a golden period from Russian Rhythm in 2003 to Minding in 2016 when the race was won by 5 fillies who were also successful against colts in open Group 1 company, but although this year's race was by no means vintage in terms of form, Opera Singer looks one of the most likely in recent years to do the same, emphatically proving her stamina for this longer trip with Moore intent on breaking the race apart soon after halfway, a rather slack pace to that point lifting appreciably, Opera Singer sustaining that effort admirably as others - including a pair of classic winners - closed in under more efficient rides.

OPERA SINGER (USA) may now be set to fulfil the considerable promise of her wide-margin Marcel Boussac win as a middle-distance filly, 2 runs at 1m previously this year helping to condition her while ensuring the tank still ought to be full into the autumn, a clear sense from her campaigning that the season is really all about one day back in Paris in October; she broke well and led but didn't have to go particularly quickly, Moore taking his time to cross onto the rail before quickening the tempo appreciably soon after halfway, Opera Singer drawing clear of her closest pursuer over 2f out before she was tackled entering the final 1f, holding on gamely; she did well to sustain her effort having kicked for home so soon and, while she's not absolutely guaranteed to stay 1½m on pedigree, there's a lot about her to think that she will, perhaps getting the chance to prove it as soon as the Yorkshire Oaks, though wherever she goes next there's likely better to come.

SEE THE FIRE took a step forward back on much firmer ground, settling better than at Sandown, hardly a surprise from her pedigree that she'd be an improved performer over this trip; mid-field, headway under 2f out, challenged entering final 1f, ran on, just failed.

SPARKLING PLENTY (FR) ran every bit as well as in the Diane, on firmer ground and in new colours with Al Shaqab Racing having bought half of her for £5 million, hard to make up the amount of ground she was asked to with the gallop having been steady to past halfway; steadied at the start, dropped out, shaken up over 4f out before Demuro got more serious 3f out, steady headway over 1f out, ran on, nearest at the finish.

ELMALKA ran to a similar level to at Ascot, perhaps not quite as well suited by the 2f longer trip as had seemed likely; chased leaders, didn't go with first 2 when they kicked on over 4f out but got herself into challenging position over 1f out, not quicken last ½f.

DOHA ran as well as could be expected up significantly in grade; held up, effort on inner 3f out, headway over 1f out, no further impression.

EMILY UPJOHN had seemed on the way back at the Curragh yet looked a shadow of the horse she was last year this time, admittedly under a ride that was neither one thing nor the other from the outside stall, resulting in her taking a strong hold stuck wide and still having to be taken back as they reached the top of the hill after 4f, and she couldn't quicken at all when asked for an effort under 3f out.

STAY ALERT again ran poorly back on much firmer ground, at a push the track not ideal; mid-division, lost place 2f out, hung right over 1f out, no response.

LUMIERE ROCK (IRE) couldn't build on her Pretty Polly run, unable to sustain such a long sprint for home, painting the winner's performance in a very positive light; close up, quickened with winner soon after halfway, left behind by that one over 2f out, weakened final 1f.

LADY BOBA mightn't have been right, or perhaps fast ground on a track like this just didn't suit her at all; tracked pace, not settle fully, lost place over 3f out, soon beaten, not persevered with once held.
