This has been a bad race for short-priced favourites since Alpha Centauri took her field apart in 2018, Terebellum, Inspiral and Via Sistina all turned over at evens or shorter, but top-level form was thin on the ground this time around, Porta Fortuna facing a weak challenge from the older brigade - especially with Running Lion shaping as if amiss - and none of the principals from the Coronation Stakes or 1000 Guineas, with only A Lilac Rolla representing the Irish 1000 Guineas form, and she made no mistake, outclassing her rivals in what has the feel of a substandard renewal, the quartet who chased her home finishing in a heap; the field raced mainly far side, with Rogue Millennium isolated in the centre and not seen to best effect as a result.

PORTA FORTUNA (IRE) ran at least as well as at Ascot, outclassing her rivals in an ordinary Group 1 to take her tally at this level to 3; tracked pace, travelled well, led under 3f out, shaken up over 1f out, hung left briefly, won readily; she's a most likeable type and, though sterner tests surely await, even in races at this level confined to her own sex, like the Matron and Sun Chariot, she'll be towards the head of the shortlist.

JABAARA (IRE) came into this on the up, having won a couple of listed races, and continued that progression upped markedly in grade, having no problem with the extra 1f and finding only a bona-fide Group 1 filly too good; waited with, travelled well, effort over 2f out, challenged soon after, not quicken final 1f; she'll probably need her sights lowering slightly if she's to regain the winning thread, but further steps forward can't be ruled out.

ROGUE MILLENNIUM (IRE) turned in her best effort of the season, looking much more her old self, probably worth marking up slightly, too, given that she raced solo up the centre of the track; raced centre, close up, shaken up over 2f out, not quicken over 1f out.

A LILAC ROLLA (IRE) had beaten Opera Singer by further in the Irish 1000 Guineas than the winner did in the Coronation Stakes, but that one was an improved model at Royal Ascot and A Lilac Rolla could run to just a similar level without any obvious excuses, close enough when the winner went on and her limitations perhaps beginning to show; tracked pace, ridden 2f out, not quicken over 1f out.

SIRONA (GER) back up in trip, ran well upped in grade, continuing her good start for her current yard, presumably something more realistic, like the Oak Tree Stakes, on the agenda next; slowly into stride, held up, not settle fully, effort 3f out, stayed on approaching final 1f, never on terms.

MAGICAL SUNSET (IRE) had plenty to find in this company and ran about as well as she's able; held up, shaken up 3f out, weakened over 1f out.

RUNNING LION attempted a repeat of the tactics that had served her so well at Royal Ascot, but ran a second stinker in her last 3 starts, having been easy to back on this occasion, something surely amiss given how quickly she checked out and was eased off; led, shaken up 3f out, headed soon after, folded tamely; her patchy profile means she's one to treat with caution.
