A strong renewal of a race that brings together the best of the 3-y-o milers (French 2000 Guineas winner Lope de Vega the only notable absentee), and the performance of Canford Cliffs was more or less on a par with recent standards despite the bare form being pinned somewhat by a bunched finish, the pace sound on the whole but easing mid-race, and it was only in the last 2f that things developed fully, a couple getting a rough passage as it did so, notably Hearts of Fire.
