whose high-class sister Minding had just been touched off in this race in 2016, arrived with a very different profile herself but was backed at long odds near the off and found a chunk of improvement to go one place better, overcoming unfavourable circumstances to do so; mid-field out wide, headway when hampered 3f out, outpaced 2f out, looked held over 1f out but found plenty to lead near line; her future surely lies back over further (only entries are in the Oaks and Irish Oaks) and it'd be folly to rule out further improvement given this was just her fourth start.

All 14 ran.

Winning Owner: Mrs John Magnier & M Tabor & D Smith

Time: 1m 47.92s Closing Sectional: (2.00f): 25.40s (106.2%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 121%, Betfair SP 100.5%

A bunched finish to an Irish 1000 Guineas in which neither of the 2 standard-setters gave their running means this is form to treat with plenty of caution for now, though that's not to say the front pair - 2 impeccably-bred Aidan O'Brien-trained fillies - won't go on to better things, the winner doing particularly well to overhaul Joan of Arc after being knocked off her stride 3f out.

EMPRESS JOSEPHINE (IRE) whose high-class sister Minding had just been touched off in this race in 2016, arrived with a very different profile herself but was backed at long odds near the off and found a chunk of improvement to go one place better, overcoming unfavourable circumstances to do so; mid-field out wide, headway when hampered 3f out, outpaced 2f out, looked held over 1f out but found plenty to lead near line; her future surely lies back over further (only entries are in the Oaks and Irish Oaks) and it'd be folly to rule out further improvement given this was just her fourth start.
