had been shaping as if worth another try over an extreme trip and produced his best ever effort in Britain back up in trip; in rear, not fluent first, mistake sixth, crept closer circuit out, driven after fifteenth, challenged 4 out, led next, tackled soon after, just had the upper hand and was digging deep under pressure when left clear at the last, suited by the emphasis on stamina; he's having a good season and is likely to continue in form.

looks too high in the weights but did shape better than distance beaten suggests here; forced pace, reduced advantage early final circuit, headed after 5 out, weakened, left second last but finished tired and lost that position having gone off too hard over the longest trip she's encountered.

who was fitted with a tongue strap, shaped much better than distance beaten suggests but weak finishes are regular with him; pressed leader, slow sixth, not fluent ninth, upsides sixteenth, folded tamely 4 out, admittedly with excuses for doing so this time (probably found the test too much just 11 days after enduring a hard race at Kelso and also went off too hard).

attracted support and returned to form from out of blue; prominent main group, travelled well, crept closer halfway, jumped on 5 out, headed 3 out, every chance when fell last and would obviously have gone close; whether he's in the same form next time is another matter, though, especially after a fall.
