wasted no time getting back to form, much more at home under these conditions, looking as if he will be a major player in the top staying races this summer, clearly very effective on this track, as he showed in the Long Distance Cup, all auguring well with the Gold Cup in mind; led, went clear after halfway, tackled home turn, drew clear again, stayed on strongly final 1f.

ran creditably, well positioned behind the winner but no match for him from the turn; tracked pace, pushed along 5f out, challenged entering straight, left behind by winner entering final 1f, stayed on; he's a smart stayer, but needs to find a bit more to make a greater impact at this level.

hadn't run his race here on similar ground in the Long Distance Cup, but shaped much more encouragingly after 6 months off, doing well under his penalty, just needing the run in the end; in touch, travelled well, effort over 2f out, no extra final 1f; likely to be fully competitive at this level with this under his belt.

won first time out last season, but this time round looked to need the run and was well held after 6 months off; held up, ridden over 4f out, left behind soon after.

looks the sort who ought to make a better 4-y-o, but he was below form after 6 months off, not ideally positioned as things went but a bit tame all the same, his rider accepting things a fair way out; held up, effort over 3f out, weakened 2f out.

in a better race, wasn't in the same form as last time, though he wasn't well positioned to get involved anyway; in rear, ridden 3f out, made no impression.

There have been stronger runnings of this race, but the placed pair appeared to run their race and the winner, in beating them comprehensively, put down a marker for top honours in the enhanced staying programme this year; as so often on the round course at this track, a handy position looked a definite advantage.

TORCEDOR (IRE) wasted no time getting back to form, much more at home under these conditions, looking as if he will be a major player in the top staying races this summer, clearly very effective on this track, as he showed in the Long Distance Cup, all auguring well with the Gold Cup in mind; led, went clear after halfway, tackled home turn, drew clear again, stayed on strongly final 1f.

DESERT SKYLINE (IRE) hadn't run his race here on similar ground in the Long Distance Cup, but shaped much more encouragingly after 6 months off, doing well under his penalty, just needing the run in the end; in touch, travelled well, effort over 2f out, no extra final 1f; likely to be fully competitive at this level with this under his belt.

CLEVER COOKIE in a better race, wasn't in the same form as last time, though he wasn't well positioned to get involved anyway; in rear, ridden 3f out, made no impression.
