New to the Placepot?
For those unfamiliar with the Tote’s raceday ritual, the Placepot simply requires you to pick one horse to finish placed in each of the first six races of a given meeting. You can also add alternative horses to some or all of the races, or ‘legs’, to create more lines and boost your chances of winning. Until recently, the cost of each combination, or 'line' was set at £1, but Tote now allow online bettors to place just 10p on each line, as long as you meet the minimum total stake of 50p with your 'perm', or combination of lines.
If you’re successful, you’ll win an equal share of an overall pot (proportionate to your stake) made up of the stakes from all entries – no matter which placed horses made up your winning line(s), or what price they were. However, because of the way the Tote works, the fewer people who select your horses, the better your potential return.

Leg 1: 13:05 - British European Breeders Fund EBF Maiden Stakes
A maiden to kick off Saturday's action at Glorious Goodwood, and we're going to side with the top-rated CLASSIC to open his account in the opener. An eye-catcher on debut at Newbury earlier this month when given a hands-and-heels ride, Richard Hannon's charge sits 7lb clear on our weight-adjusted ratings, but more importantly has the Timeform large 'P' attached to his rating, signifying that he is considered capable of delivering much more. The son of Dubawi can make a bold bid here, and it will be a surprise if he finishes outside the places.
Leg 2: 13:40 - Coral Stewards' Sprint Handicap
No marks for originality here but LETHAL LEVI has thrived this season and can race from a 1-lb lower mark than when successful at Newmarket last, so he's an obvious choice.
At a bigger price, STONE OF DESTINY has got himself very well handicapped. He finds himself 6 lb lower than when winning the Portland in 2020 and if a change of rider (Rob Hornby replaces Harry Davies) can spark him back to life, he’ll be a danger to all off a mark of 87.
Leg 3: 14:10 - Coral Summer Handicap
A tricky looking contest with questions hanging over a few of these, whilst three come into this contest bidding for a hat-trick. The one who gets the nod however is VALLEY FORGE, whose stamina proved to be stretched just too far when finishing seventh in the Northumberland Plate, though a chance is taken on him now dropping back to 1m6f and reverting back to turf. The recent form of his yard is encouraging, with the Andrew Balding team ticking along nicely as of late (saddling 10 winners from last 48 runners), and Valley Forge also looks likely to be well suited by the way in which this race is shaping up from a pace perspective. Ridden towards the head of affairs with an 'even pace' anticipated, the son of Dansili should be well placed to make his effort and can hopefully bounce back here, with just 1lb to find on our weight-adjusted ratings.
Leg 4: 14:45 - Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2)
SEA LA ROSA sets a good standard here – she’s 3 lb clear of the field on the Timeform ratings. She progressed through the ranks last year and picked up where she left off with a good performance at Haydock, doing well to win despite pulling hard in a slowly run race. Her second last-time behind Free Wind looks a strong piece of form and this step up in trip could bring out even more improvement.
Leg 5: 15:20 - Coral Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap)
On to the big one then, and we're going to side with two against the field in this year's renewal of the Coral Stewards' Cup.
Up first is the David O'Meara-trained SUMMERGHAND, who sets the standard on our weight-adjusted ratings heading into this contest and flags as a 'Horse in Focus', following another solid effort in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last month. The winner of this race back in 2020, Summerghand he looks to be lurking on a good mark, and as can be seen in the Timeform Pace Map, he looks to be well positioned to make his effort just off the 'very strong pace' that is anticipated.
At a massive price, ABOVE (50/1 at time of writing) has the form to be a player here. His second at Newmarket in April reads really well now with Justanotherbottle (winner since), First Folio (10/1 for this race), Jumby (third in the Wokingham and Bunbury Cup), and Mr Wagyu (won twice since and 9/1 for this), all in behind him.
Above was below form over 7f at Royal Ascot since but ran well back over 6f off a 4 lb higher mark at Chelmsford last time, helping force the pace and going three-wide on the bend before plucking on to finish two lengths behind the eventual winner, Tolstoy. His turf mark is 4 lb lower than his all-weather one which means he can race off the same mark here as his fine Newmarket effort and he looks well enough drawn in stall 16 with the majority of the pace drawn high.
Leg 6: 15:55 - Medallia Handicap
Plenty in with a shout in this competitive 3-y-o handicap and it looks sure to be strongly run with Positive Impact, Zero Carbon and Roman Dragon all habitual pace-forcers. With that in mind, it could be worth looking for something that’ll be held onto for a bit longer and the one that stands out in that respect is GALIAC. He’s been too keen in muddling contests twice this year but has won the twice he’s got a well-run race, including a similar race to this over course and distance back in the spring. He’s just 2 lb higher now than for the second of his wins, when he did well to catch a fellow three-year-old after conceding first run on the July Course, and stall 2 should enable David Probert to get the perfect trail through just off the strong gallop.
