Superstorm (Timeform rating 58p)
Seventh, 7f nursery, Lingfield, Tuesday 14 October
Superstorm shaped better than previously when finishing in mid-division on his nursery debut at Lingfield and looks likely to progress when faced with sterner tests of stamina. Superstorm was soon on the back foot after breaking awkwardly and was still last and with plenty to do when they turned into the straight, but he kept on encouragingly down the outside and picked off a number of rivals without ever getting close enough to challenge. He saw things out well on his first start at seven furlongs and, as a half-brother to a couple of middle-distance winners, looks likely to prove suited by longer trips.
Cherry Cobbler (85p)
Third, 5f handicap, Chelmsford, Thursday 16 October
Cherry Cobbler managed to win over five furlongs at Southwell on his previous start, so it was unlikely a lack of speed which caused him to get behind early on here. It's more likely that he was a little rusty on his first run for nine months, but he made good inroads from an unpromising position in the straight to get to within three-quarters of a length of the third, producing his best effort yet on Timeform's figures. Cherry Cobbler showed enough to suggest he's been handed a fair opening mark and, with a yard that tends to do well on the all-weather in the winter months, he's one to look out for next time in a similar event.
Into The Park (h126)
Runner-up, 2½m handicap hurdle, Uttoxeter, Friday 17 October
Into The Park endured a disappointing campaign last season, particularly in light of how much promise he had shown the previous season, but he shaped well on his return to action at Uttoxeter. Into The Park was only beaten a neck and may well have won had he enjoyed the same trouble-free passage as the winner who managed to secure first run. It was encouraging how Into The Park stayed on when in the clear and this provides a solid foundation he can build on this season.
