Ratings Update: River unchanged after Chantilly
Constitution River didn't need to improve to see off his stablemates in the Prix du Jockey Club, but Estrange was near her best when easily defending her Pinnacle Stakes crown.
Racing from across the Channel kicks off this week’s Ratings Update, beginning with the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly which was perfectly choreographed by the Ballydoyle trio of Constitution River, Mountain Hawk and Montreal.
Constitution River (remains on 124p) had briefly become Derby favourite the week before when it seemed he might be waiting for Epsom instead, but this had been the plan since his rout at Chester, being French-bred after all which meant that he qualified for a bonus which took his prize pot over the million euro mark.
While he took the step up in grade in his stride, he was very much entitled to on form and didn't need to replicate his Dee Stakes effort, much more workmanlike this time but deserving credit for overcoming a poor draw under a well-judged Ryan Moore ride.
