came out on top despite not quite matching recent handicap form, this smaller field/steadier gallop probably not ideal for him; waited with, pushed along around 2f out, switched 1f out, produced to lead final 100 yds, always holding on; has developed into a most likeable type and will continue to give a good account, either kept to this level or back in top-end handicaps.

went down to a subsequent Group 1 winner (off similar weights) when last seen 10 months ago and, without usual cheekpieces, ran another cracker on return to action, confirming himself as smart and pushing a thriving rival close; waited with, had to wait for gap around 1f out, got split final 100 yds, finished well, never nearer, conceded first run.

isn't quite up to to this level and ran as well as could be expected against a couple of smart rivals; pressed leader, led entering final 1f, headed final 100 yds, no extra.

ran to a similar level to last time and this looks his level at present, on turf at least; in touch, shaken up 2f out, every chance over 1f out, one paced.

went backwards from reappearance, adding to a patchy record; dictated, pushed along over 2f out, headed over 1f out, checked out tamely; without a win since his 3-y-o days, he's not one to back at short prices.

A weak race for the grade, especially with Wadilsafa flopping, the standard-setter not needing to be at his best to win; the gallop picked up from halfway.
