cut out the mistakes this time and got off the mark in this sphere with a strong staying performance, showing form better than anything he managed over timber; held up, jumped well, headway eleventh, shaken up 5 out, chased leader straight, led before last, found plenty; will stay long distances; may do better still over fences.

after 8 weeks off, ran best race in this sphere, looking well suited by a switch to positive tactics, even if it arguably meant he ended up doing a bit too much; soon led, jumped soundly in main, went with zest, mistake 5 out, effort 3 out, headed before last, no extra; he's up to winning a race or 2 over fences for sure.

showed fairly useful form in his first handicap chase, yet to match best hurdles efforts over fences, though he's not one to write off from lower mark in this sphere, likely to come good at some stage; in touch, travelled well, shaken up 5 out, one paced; remains with potential as a chaser.

possibly failed to stay or else was amiss, either way shaping much better than being pulled up might suggest, though it's a bit worrying he did the exact same thing last time; held up, travelled smoothly, not fluent tenth, headway eleventh, shaken up after 5 out, stopped quickly.

A good pace on testing ground made for a proper test of resolution and only the first 3 came close to passing muster, nothing wrong with the form between them but the race as a whole less competitive than it looked on paper.
