A very representative field turned up for the latest edition of the Irish Oaks, the Pretty Polly winner, the second, third and fourth from Epsom and the winner of the Ribblesdale amongst them, and it was the pair that fought it out in the last-named race that came to the fore again, Star Catcher becoming just the second filly since Bolas in 1994 - Bracelet being the other - to complete that particular double; fresh from drawing a blank on a flying visit to Killarney earlier in the week, Dettori was seen at his brilliant best, the others forced to dance to his tune, as both he and John Gosden landed their second Oaks of the year.

STAR CATCHER one of the least exposed in the field, confirmed herself one of the best in the division to make it 3 wins from her last 4 starts, undoubtedly seen to advantage under an outstanding Dettori ride, but hard to argue that she wasn't full value for it, Fleeting the only one to lay a glove on her, the remainder trailing in her wake some way out; dictated, quickened clear 2f out, kept up to her work and always holding on; capable of further success at this level, but where she goes next depends on what her trainer decides to do with the multitude of top fillies at his disposal, the likes of Enable, Lah Ti Dar, Coronet, Anapurna and Mehdaayih also in his care.

FLEETING (IRE) ran as well as she has ever done, getting closer to the winner than at Ascot despite not being ideally placed the way things went, but to say she was unlucky would be stretching a point, her effort flattening out a little by the line; mid-division, headway 2f out, stayed on, pulled clear of remainder, not ideally placed; capable of adding to her tally at this level, but may need to go on her travels if she is to do so.

PINK DOGWOOD (IRE) back up in trip, ran just respectably, yet to build on the promise shown at Epsom, hold-up tactics counting against her on the day but, just like last time, not seeing her race out quite so well as seemed likely; dropped out, headway early in straight, kept on into third 1f out, no further impression.

SEARCH FOR A SONG (IRE) upped in trip, ran as well as could be expected for one so inexperienced; held up, raced freely, headway entering straight, kept on, never nearer; sure to win more races in less exalted company.

MANUELA DE VEGA (IRE) failed to repeat last effort and had no obvious excuses, close enough if good enough turning for home; raced along inside, chased leaders, ridden early in straight, one paced.

PEACH TREE (IRE) back down in trip, wasn't disgraced, simply not up to this level; close up, driven early in straight, carried head bit awkwardly, weakened.

IRIDESSA (IRE) who sweated up beforehand, ran no sort of race, beaten before the trip became an issue, no surprise if something were to come to light in the next few days to explain this performance; waited with, pushed along approaching home turn, forced wide, made no impression.

TRETHIAS failed to stay this 2f longer trip; mid-division, headway approaching home turn, still disputing third 2f out, weakened, not persevered with once chance had gone.
