MACKENBERG (GER) maintained his unbeaten record over fences from 4 lb higher than at Musselburgh in another race with holes in it, suggesting he possibly isn't suddenly the vastly better chaser the bare result might imply, set for a bigger rise in the weights now, too; chased leader, clouted seventh, not fluent 3 out, jumped on next, clear when untidy last.

CORNERSTONE LAD hadn't been let off lightly with a 5 lb rise for landing a very thin handicap at his beloved Wetherby (view supported by the betting here) but probably failed to match that form in any case; waited with, shaken up circuit out, outpaced from 4 out, plugged on, took second final 1f.

TOKAY DOKEY (IRE) found his promising start over fences coming to an abrupt end, his finishing effort tame regardless of a late mistake, worth remembering he'd missed a long time prior to his return (evidently fragile); led, not fluent first, headed when awkward on landing 2 out, faltered, beaten when hung right final 1f.
