has fallen to a handy mark, and proved at least as good as ever to score for the first time in almost 2 years, the race panning out well for him but really stamping his authority on it in the closing stages; mid-division, headway from 3f out, led inside final 1f, stayed on well; will remain with some handicapping scope but consistency isn't his strong suit.

back on turf, proved better than ever under a penalty (had good 5 lb claimer taking over in saddle), having no problem whatsoever with the drop in trip and beaten only by one who had fallen to a good mark; led, went with zest, headed after 2f, remained prominent, led again over 2f out, headed inside final 1f, no extra late on; he'll remain of interest.

in first-time cheekpieces, wasted no time getting back to form, doing best of those held up for all he was never in with a chance of winning; dwelt, held up, headway over 2f out, kept on gradually, never a threat; he was a big price here but he's still lightly raced in handicaps and has a pedigree that suggests he may do even better at some stage.

Non Runners: MOUNT ARARAT (IRE).

Winning Owner: The Roses Partnership

Time: 1m 38.17s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 38.90s (97.2%)

An up-to-scratch renewal of this historic race, at least in terms of the level the front pair ran to, though several weren't seen to best effect and it may not prove the most robust piece of form; the pace seemed sound but the leaders quickened turning into the straight, those ridden further back struggling to get involved.

ROUSAYAN (IRE) has fallen to a handy mark, and proved at least as good as ever to score for the first time in almost 2 years, the race panning out well for him but really stamping his authority on it in the closing stages; mid-division, headway from 3f out, led inside final 1f, stayed on well; will remain with some handicapping scope but consistency isn't his strong suit.

STAR OF SOUTHWOLD (FR) back on turf, proved better than ever under a penalty (had good 5 lb claimer taking over in saddle), having no problem whatsoever with the drop in trip and beaten only by one who had fallen to a good mark; led, went with zest, headed after 2f, remained prominent, led again over 2f out, headed inside final 1f, no extra late on; he'll remain of interest.

ALGAFFAAL (USA) in first-time cheekpieces, wasted no time getting back to form, doing best of those held up for all he was never in with a chance of winning; dwelt, held up, headway over 2f out, kept on gradually, never a threat; he was a big price here but he's still lightly raced in handicaps and has a pedigree that suggests he may do even better at some stage.

SAISONS D'OR (IRE) continues in good heart, this a higher grade than he's used to, and he'll still be of interest in 0-80s; chased leaders, effort over 2f out, edged left, one paced.

CLUB WEXFORD (IRE) strong in the betting under a penalty, couldn't complete the hat-trick but shaped as if still in good form after just 4 days off; close up, travelled better than most, led after 2f, headed over 2f out, faded final 1f.

DARK INTENTION (IRE) in first-time cheekpieces, hasn't gone on from her York second, though she will likely be of interest once eligible for 0-80s; in touch, labouring 2f out, kept on again inside final 1f.

TOUGH REMEDY (IRE) wasn't disgraced back on turf, though without shaping as though his turn is imminent; waited with, pushed along 3f out, stayed on gradually final 1f.

MIKMAK who attracted support, wasn't seen to best effect and remains one to keep an eye on; slowly into stride, in rear, took strong hold, not clear run from early in straight, got gap inside final 1f, ran on.

BROTHER MCGONAGALL wasn't in the same form as last time from 10 lb higher mark; mid-division, effort over 2f out, weakened gradually.

AL ERAYG (IRE) failed to build on the promise of last run, though once more wasn't seen to best effect; held up, ridden over 2f out, not clear run briefly, never landed a blow, not ideally placed.

NEW LOOK (FR) is starting to look attractively weighted but wasn't seen to best effect in first-time cheekpieces; dwelt, held up, effort when not clear run briefly 2f out, never landed a blow, not ideally placed.

DREAM WALKER (FR) again ran below form; held up, labouring from 3f out.

THE NAVIGATOR back on firmer ground/down in trip, wasn't seen to very best effect, though evidence is beginnning to mount that he was very much flattered on his reappearance second; raced well off the pace, brief headway 2f out, never on terms.

TADAAWOL failed by a long chalk to repeat last effort; chased leaders, weakened 2f out.

MY AMIGO ran even worse; in touch, weakened over 2f out.

LAMLOOM (IRE) can have this run ignored, unable to get cover from a wide draw; raced wide, chased leaders, raced freely, weakened quickly 2f out.
