looked a filly out of the top-drawer in showing much-improved form, well served by the emphasis on stamina, this just her fourth start, sure to have even more to offer; handy, effort straight, led 3f out, stayed on strongly final 1f, well on top finish; stamped herself the clear leader of her age and sex over middle-distances, and will be hard to beat in races such as the Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks, but there will hopefully be a temptation to go for the King George, following in the footsteps of Taghrooda, already good enough to be a serious challenger for that.

had looked a likely sort for this when runner-up in the Guineas and it's hard to argue that she failed to stay the 4f longer trip, running close to her form, but beaten by one who was much improved on just her fourth start, that rival just better served by a strong test of stamina; in touch, travelled well, disputed lead 3f out, kept on but outstayed by winner; she's well up to winning at Group 1 level this summer, likely that, on the back of this, she'll drop back in trip and follow the path taken by Minding last year, the Pretty Polly and the Nassau both appealing as ideal targets.

was beaten a fair bit further by Enable than she had been at Chester, but she ran creditably all the same; waited with, effort straight, headway over 2f out, edged left, made little impression; the Ribblesdale, if it doesn't come too soon, might well be an option for her.

over 2f longer trip, did pretty well upped in grade, even though she lacked the class to land a blow, looking all about stamina; raced off the pace, ridden over 4f out, kept on well from 2f out, nearest at the finish; this was just her fourth start and she may yet have more to offer.

couldn't repeat her form from the Saint-Alary, that effort seeming to have taken the edge off of her, this a rather lethargic display; soon behind, never going pace, late headway; she will be fully effective at the trip another day and may well get back on track sooner rather than later.

over 2f longer trip, was an optimistic challenger at this level and was essentially found out by the company, hard to judge the limits of her stamina on this evidence; off the bridle long way out, always behind.

served her turn as pacemaker, doing her job too well in terms of how much of a test of stamina she made it, not surprisingly having nothing left at the end and below form; forced pace, went clear before halfway, headed 3f out, weakened over 1f out.

was by no means sure to stay this longer trip, but she got a poor tactical ride, much too close to the pacemaker, which gave her no chance of lasting home, clearly best judged on her form last time when she returns, presumably over shorter; chased leader, raced freely, ridden over 4f out, weakened over 2f out.

over 2f longer trip, just seemed to be found out in better company, though the ground was significantly quicker than at Newbury; mid-division, labouring before home turn, weakened 3f out; had looked a bright prospect at Newbury and worth another chance to confirm it.

Non Runners: DADDYS LIL DARLING (USA). Race Distance Adjustment: +26 yds

Winning Owner: Mr K. Abdullah

Time: 2m 34.13s Closing Sectional: (3.44f): 39.10s (112.7%)

A representative field for the Oaks, with the runner-up from the One Thousand Guineas faced by plenty that had made an impact in the conventional trials for this race, as well as the first 2 from the Saint-Alary; the first of those set the standard, her Newmarket form good enough to win an average running of this, and she wasn't far off that level, clear of the remainder but denied by one that improved a chunk on just her fourth start, a strong stayer who was well served by the searching gallop set by the runner-up's stable companion, her performance on initial assessment bettered in winning the race this century only by Sariska and Ouija Board, every chance that she will stamp herself a top-class middle-distance filly; in an unfortunate incident, the American-trained Daddy's Lil Darling bolted going to post, possibly spooked by thunder and lightning, her jockey wisely bailing out as she approached the stalls at full pelt, thankfully both horse and rider emerging unscathed, though the filly was withdrawn.

ENABLE looked a filly out of the top-drawer in showing much-improved form, well served by the emphasis on stamina, this just her fourth start, sure to have even more to offer; handy, effort straight, led 3f out, stayed on strongly final 1f, well on top finish; stamped herself the clear leader of her age and sex over middle-distances, and will be hard to beat in races such as the Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks, but there will hopefully be a temptation to go for the King George, following in the footsteps of Taghrooda, already good enough to be a serious challenger for that.
