O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESRunner-By-Runner Guide: Prince Of Wales's Stakes
Posted in: Royal Ascot News
1 - ADDEYBB (6) William Haggas/Tom Marquand
Won the Wolferton at this meeting last year and enjoyed a fantastic spell in Australia earlier this year, winning 2 Group 1s over this trip. Suspect he'll need some rain if he's to prevail here.
The most impressive winner of the opening day?

2 - BANGKOK (2) Andrew Balding/Silvestre De Sousa
Exuberant sort who scored impressively at Lingfield (all wins have come at around this trip) in February. Again proved too keen in the Winter Derby latest and this is a tough ask. Tongue tie back on.
3 - BARNEY ROY (1) Charlie Appleby/William Buick
Won the 2017 St James's Palace and back to that sort of form in Dubai earlier this year, winning Group 1 over 9f when last seen. Probably going to need a career-best to come out on top in this.
4 - HEADMAN (3) Roger Charlton/Jason Watson
Went from strength to strength last term, winning a very good Newbury handicap and 2 Group races in France over this trip. Not seen to best effect in the Irish Champion final start and has more to offer.
Headman – a proper horse and one who carries the traits of his superstar sire Kingman. The future is bright, say @skysportsAlexH and @LynchySSR... pic.twitter.com/en33meDJdV

5 - JAPAN (5) Aidan O'Brien/Ryan Moore
Proved a high-class 3-y-o, winning the King Edward VII here, Grand Prix de Paris and Juddmonte before a mighty effort in fourth in the Arc. Might not have reached his peak and the one to beat here.
On a racecard that included two Group 1 races, this performance from Japan in the King Edward VII Stakes was arguably the most impressive of the day.

6 - LORD NORTH (7) John Gosden/James Doyle
His form has taken off since the autumn and he returned with another big win in the Brigadier Gerard at Haydock, edging out Elarqam. Well worth a crack at this and could go really well.

7 - MEHDAAYIH (4) John Gosden/Frankie Dettori
Did well last term, winning 3 times, including 12f Fillies' Group 2 in France. Good effort in the Champion Stakes here when last seen but faces a stiff re-introduction.
Timeform Analyst's Verdict
There is more to come from HEADMAN this year and he could offer a bit of value against Japan. He went from strength to strength last term and wasn't seen to best effect in the Irish Champion on his final start. There is a Group 1 in him for sure, as there are more in Juddmonte-winner Japan, who ran a cracker in the Arc when last seen. Lord North is on the up and could be set for a huge effort.
