O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESRoyal Ascot Tips: Thursday
Posted in: Royal Ascot Tips
14:30 Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) - Ascot
A'ALI pulled clear with another good prospect at Ripon having really impressed with the way he went through the race and this speedy son of Society Rock can improve enough to see off the likes of Sunday Sovereign and Expressionist who, like the bulk of this field, arrive on the back of impressive wins with the promise of more to come.
15:05 Hampton Court Stakes (Group 3) - Ascot
HEADMAN arrives having followed a similar pattern to connections' Time Test who landed this race in 2015. It was no mean feat in defying top weight in the London Gold Cup on his most recent outing and there is a strong suspicion Roger Charlton's colt can rate higher still. Cape of Good Hope is also interesting down in grade, along with Fox Chairman and King Ottokar back at this shorter trip.
15:40 Ribblesdale Stakes (Group 1) - Ascot
At the prices, STAR CATCHER looks the way to go. She was beaten only half a length by Queen Power last time and seems sure to improve again for this step up in trip. Fleeting commands plenty of respect on the back of her excellent third in the Oaks, while Shambolic and Frankellina are others worth viewing positively.
16:20 Ascot Gold Cup (Group 1) - Ascot
STRADIVARIUS faces a couple of new rivals here in Dee Ex Bee and Cross Counter but last month's reappearance success in the Yorkshire Cup suggests he's every bit as good as last year and he should continue to prove very hard to beat. Dee Ex Bee has been impressive when stepped up to 2m on both starts this term and could be the one to give John Gosden's charge most to think about.
17:00 Britannia Stakes (Heritage Handicap) - Ascot
Top of a long list of plausible candidates is AWEEDRAM, who wasn't seen to best effect in the Silver Bowl at Haydock and he looked progressive prior to that. The recent rain shouldn't be an issue (C&D winner on good to soft last month) and he probably has more to offer. King Ademar is feared on the back of his Nottingham near miss, while Velorum, Motafaawit and Davydenko all possess potential.
17:35 King George V Stakes (Handicap) - Ascot
SIR RON PRIESTLEY cashed in on what was a gift of an opening mark at Haydock last month, and given there's little doubt that he's a middle-distance handicapper on the up, he could well shrug off an 8 lb rise and provide Mark Johnston with a seventh win in the race. Sinjaari and Good Birthday finished second and third in a good renewal of the London Gold Cup Handicap and head the opposition.
