O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESRoyal Ascot Results: Solow rules supreme in Queen Anne Stakes
Posted in: Royal Ascot News
Solow is the second-highest-rated horse in Europe based on Timeform ratings, behind only impressive Derby winner Golden Horn, and he justified his star billing by winning the Queen Anne Stakes from fellow French raider Esoterique with the well-backed Cougar Mountain in third.
The disappointment of the race was Hong Kong raider Able Friend, who never looked comfortable away from his beloved Sha Tin and faded into a distant sixth, while last year's 2000 Guineas hero Night of Thunder was also well below his best in fifth.
Trainer Freddie Head, who had saddled Goldikova to win this race in 2010, stated that Solow is likely to go on racing for at least a few more years, and therefore his race schedule would not be a rushed one.
Head cited the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, also over a mile, as a potential next target for his superstar, and played down the idea of a trip to the Breeders’ Cup, with the tight Keeneland track not expected to play to his strengths.
Jockey Maxime Guyon, interviewed after the race, said about the winner: “He’s the boss, he’s the best horse I have ridden in my career”.
