O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESGosden: Too Darn Hot primed for Royal Ascot
Posted in: Royal Ascot News
Too Darn Hot was the outstanding two-year-old of last season, winning the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, but things haven't gone to plan to plan so far this year; missing the 2000 Guineas due to injury in May, before being beaten in two starts since, first in the Dante Stakes at York and then in the Irish 2000 Guineas nine days later - something Gosden blames himself for.
What a performance - Phoenix Of Spain is much the best in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas for @cbhills and @JPSpencer1980! @curraghrace

He said: "“He’s been probably the worst-managed horse this year.
“We sent him to the Dante when quite frankly he was 80%. Frankie (Dettori) was trying to settle him further back and ignored the pacemakers and consequently he got there to be second.
“Then, very stupidly because we seemed to be missing all the Classics, we took him over nine days later to Ireland and we had to give him a flu vac (before travelling). In the rules, he was perfectly eligible to race in England but not in Ireland as they’ve changed the rules, so we gave him a flu vac on the Saturday and ran him on the following Saturday, as he wouldn’t have been allowed into the racecourse stables otherwise.
“He ran very well (to finish second to Phoenix Of Spain) but we were asking the horse to do impossible things. It would have been much better if I’d simply targeted the Irish Guineas with him.”
Phoenix of Spain is the 7/4 favourite to confirm the form from the Curragh and win the St James's Palace Stakes, while Too Darn Hot is a 7/2 chance, and fellow Gosden runner King of Comedy is 6/1.
