We provide selections from the opening heats of the Greyhound Derby at Nottingham on Friday.
King Sheeran (Trap 6) - 19:42 Nottingham
Liz & Rab McNair have landed many of greyhound racing’s greatest prizes but the Greyhound Derby has proved elusive to date for all they have gone close previously, particularly with the highly-talented Eden The Kid. Therefore, it would be poignant for a son of the aforementioned hound to provide the kennel with Derby glory in the shape of King Sheeran (Trap 6, 19.42). His opening assignment is far from a walk over, but he has more than impressed in trials of late and, operating as the sole wide seed, he is fancied to turn front rank and book his place in round two.
Ballydoyle Valor (Trap 2) - 20:29 Nottingham
Graham Holland, arrives from Ireland with another strong team and his Ballydoyle Valor (Trap 2, 20.29) is fancied to score having already impressed over this C&D. His success in a Trial Stake earned him a Timeform rating of 130, an effort all the more meritorious given he was forced to come from behind, advertising his abundant stamina. He’s entitled to build on that effort as his course knowledge improves further and it would come as a disappointment where he not to come out on top.
Bockos Tiger (Trap 3) - 21:32 Nottingham
Two hounds stand out from a ratings perspective in heat 13, notably Bockos Tiger (Trap 3, 21.32) (TF 117) and Nice Charmer (Trap 4, TF 121). Both arrive boasting impressive Irish cards but the former holds the edge on the sectional clock and is fancied to hold sway early which may prove crucial. Kevin Boon’s charge for all he is seeded rails should have no issues from the white jacket and at the current prices, makes more appeal.
