Virtual Grand National: betting information, runners and TV timeBy Timeform, Friday 03 April Here's all the essential information for Saturday's Virtual Grand National.
What is happening? The 2020 Grand National may have been cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus, but a Virtual Grand National will take place, featuring 40 runners and riders in a simulated race over Aintree's famous course, utilising CGI technology and special algorithms.
When does it take place? The Virtual Grand National programme will be broadcast from 5pm on the ITV main channel on Saturday, April 4. Nick Luck will host the coverage and Stewart Machin will be the commentator. The race will take place at 5.15pm.
Is this the first time this has happened? No, this is not a brand new concept. This will be the fourth year there has been a Virtual Grand National.
Is Tiger Roll running? Yes, a virtual version of dual Grand National hero Tiger Roll will be taking part. He heads the weights for the race and you can see the full list of the 40 runners and riders here.
Can you bet on the race? Yes, bookmakers are offering odds on the race with stakes limited to £10 win or £10 each-way per customer, per horse. Bookmakers will be donating any profit to the NHS.
Who is favourite? Tiger Roll, of course. He is a 5/1 shot to win the Virtual Grand National. The biggest-priced runner is Double Shuffle at 100/1.
Who did Timeform fancy for the Grand National? Kimberlite Candy would have been Timeform’s selection for the real Grand National. He is 16/1 to win the Virtual Grand National.
Is there anything else I should know? There will also be a virtual Race of Champions, featuring Tiger Roll, the legendary Red Rum and 38 other past champions. You can read what the 40 runners in the legends’ race have achieved here.
