O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESCoronation Stakes: Timeform's runner-by-runner guide
Posted in: Royal Ascot Tips
1. Cachet (George Boughey/ James Doyle)
Really likeable filly who made all under a fine ride from this jockey in the 1000 Guineas (Prosperous Voyage second, Oaks-winner Tuesday third) and just failed to pull off the same tactics in the French equivalent, Mangoustine narrowly prevailing. Got to be respected.
2. Discoveries (Jessica Harrington/ Shane Foley)
Beat the Oaks winner Tuesday in a maiden at the Curragh last summer and signed off for 2021 with victory in the Moyglare Stud Stakes. May have needed the run behind Cachet and co in the 1000 Guineas and better expected here. Alpine Star (half-sister) and Alpha Centauri (sister) both won this.
3. Grande Dame (John & Thady Gosden/ Jamie Spencer)
Overcame inexperience to make a winning debut in C&D event in April and took a big step forward when going down narrowly in a York listed event five weeks ago, edged out by game winner but clear of the rest. More to come and an interesting outsider.
4. Honey Girl (Henry de Bromhead/ Colin Keane)
Useful maiden who improved again when third in a Group 3 at Leopardstown last month but surely up against it at this level.
5. Inspiral (John & Thady Gosden/ Frankie Dettori)
Faultless start to her career last year, easily seeing off Prosperous Voyage in the May Hill and Fillies' Mile under Dettori and looking an exciting prospect. Lots more to come if all is well and could be hard to beat if ready to roll.
6. Mangoustine (Mikel Delzangles/ Gerald Mosse)
Has met with defeat just once and much improved when shading a three-way finish in the French 1000 Guineas under this rider, beating Cachet a head. French runners have a good record in this and she looks set for a big run.
7. Pizza Bianca (Cristophe Clement/ Jose Ortiz)
Showed a good turn of foot when winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar in November and has returned in top form, scoring at Pimlico four weeks ago. This is much tougher.
8. Prosperous Voyage (Ralph Becket/ Rob Hornby)
Progressive filly who continues to hit the crossbar, again running a blinder when chasing down Cachet in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on her return. Might not have finished improving.
9. Rolling The Dice (Hilal Kobeissi/ Marco Ghiani)
Won a seven-furlong Newbury maiden last summer and was a good third behind Inspiral in the May Hill next time. Well held in the face of stiff tasks this year and this is even tougher. Can't be fancied.
10. Sandrine (Andrew Balding/ David Probert)
Won her first three starts last year, notably the Albany here and the Duchess of Cambridge at Newmarket. Fine return behind Cachet in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, really getting going by the finish. Wouldn't dismiss.
11. Spendarella (Graham Motion/ William Buick)
Unbeaten in three starts at around a mile in the US this year, making all in a Keeneland Grade 2 ten weeks ago. Open to further improvement and no back-number under Buick.
12. Tenebrism (Aidan O'Brien/ Ryan Moore)
Produced a remarkable performance on just her second start when swooping from off the pace to win the Cheveley Park in September (Sandrine third). Never really got into a rhythm in the 1000 Guineas on her return but she's clearly better than that and worth another chance. Her dam won this in 2011.
Timeform Analyst Verdict
Inspiral had to miss the 1000 Guineas but remains a high-class prospect if all is well and is taken to stretch her unbeaten record to five on her return. The French and English 1000 Guineas heroines Mangoustine and Cachet must be on the shortlist, while Tenebrism (out of the 2011-winner of this) and Discoveries (closely related to the 2018 and 2020 winners for connections) seem set for big runs also.
1. Inspiral
2. Mangoustine
3. Cachet
