The first single-figure field for the Ribblesdale since 9 lined up in 2013, a figure matched several times earlier in the century but there hadn't been fewer than that take part since 1995, Oaks runner-up Emily Upjohn left in at the 5-day stage but not declared meaning there was no runner from a stable that had been responsible for 4 of the previosus 5 winners and is often mob-handed in the race; that being said, the small field didn't mean it was run at a false pace, the time more than a second quicker than the preceding King George V Handicap after trailblazing Mystic Wells had passed the 3f marker very nearly 2.2 seconds - more than 13 lengths - quicker than the leader in the handicap, the form up to standard, even if no better than that, for the race.
