Just 7 went to post for the opening race of Royal Ascot, the joint smallest field since the Queen Anne became a Group 1 in 2003, the same number going to post in 2006 and 2011, the field a bit short on quality as well, 5 of them not nearly good enough to win an average running, Baaeed, however, well in advance of that and sent off the shortest price in the race since Frankel at 10/1-on in 2012, the outcome never in much doubt; the field, small as it was, managed to race in 2 groups, the first 2 in the trio towards the centre, the other 4 racing more towards the near side, the pace a sound one.
