Little depth to this year's Queen Alexandra, the pair of 4-y-os who arrived on the up unable to make a serious impact over the longer trip, while the fact that the trainers of the first 4 home had, between them, been responsible for the previous 7 winners of the race shows just how unique a contest this has become; the pace was ordinary for the first 2 miles or so but increased from there when Dettori went up to press the leader, ensuring the field got sorted out in the latter stages.
