First run in 1928, the Britannia Stakes is now recognised as one of the key Heritage Handicaps in the racing calendar, the race is open to three-year-old colts and geldings only, and is run over a distance of one mile on the straight course.
The Britannia Stakes is run over both the same course and distance as the Royal Hunt Cup, which features on the previous day, the second day of Royal Ascot.
The 2018 winner of the race was the Simon Crisford-trained Ostilio, who was partnered to glory by Champion Flat Jockey Silvestre de Sousa.
John Gosden is the most successful trainer in the race, with four wins: North Song (1996), Plan-B (1998), El Gan Papa (2000) and Analyser (2001).
Jamie Spencer holds the most victories by a jockey in the Britannia Stakes, having claimed success on four occasions: New Seeker (2003), Sir Gerard (2006), Defrocked (2016) and most recently when riding Bless Him (2017).
