Sole Power had the fast-run 5f that suits him down to the ground and proved better than ever to register a second top-level success, reversing Meydan form with Shea Shea as well as turning the tables on the trio that finished ahead of him in last month's Temple Stakes, that below-par effort clearly no more than a blip on what has, over the last 2 seasons at least, been an admirably consistent record in the best 5f sprints; dropped right out from a draw nearer the stand side, he went on the bridle longer than any, was switched to make his effort approaching the last 1f before unleashing a powerful run to lead close home; he's reportedly under consideration for the July Cup, where the stiff 6f would be far from sure to play to his strengths, though with a longer wait until the Nunthorpe connections don't really have much to lose by having a go there, and there's no doubt that on his day he's about as good a sprinter as there is in training.

Sole Power who won this race last year, proved at least as good as ever to repeat the trick, value extra for the way he went about it, really impressive in passing the whole field inside the final quarter mile; dropped out, tanked along, still plenty to do 2f out, headway when switched approaching final 1f, quickened to lead inside final 100 yds, stayed on strongly; will continue to take the beating in the best 5f races, a good bet to make amends for some luckless efforts in the Nunthorpe/Abbaye since winning the former in 2010, though will reportedly have a crack at Saturday's Diamond Jubilee first, not much to lose by going there for all it's clear that this is his best trip.
