With a weight range of just 12 lb and a BHA mark of 97 required to get in, there's little room for an up-and-coming sprint handicapper in the modern-day Wokingham, even less so with the likelihood that the rare 3-y-o good enough to get in will go for the Commonwealth Cup instead, the winner something of an excpetion in that regard and able to show much-improved form on the back of her promising return; the field split into 3 groups, those 7 or lower on the far side, the quintet in 8 to 13 in the centre, alongside the main group on the near side, the first 2 emerging from that largest group, though the strongest pace was on the far side, the leader there overdoing things and the pace on that side collapsing just enough late on to allow the first 2 in, the third deserving some extra credit for his effort; all in all, though, it was a remarkable fair pace, with no interference of note and no hard-luck stories; there were 2 notable late withdrawals, both potential improvers, Zarwaan, surprisingly taken out due to the ground, and Huntsmans Close, who got loose going out onto the track, jumped a rail and did a circuit of the round course.
