The international contingent was rather thin compared to some recent runnings, while the Commonwealth Cup-bound 3-y-os and day-of-race withdrawal Mecca's Angel were notable absentees, though the likes of Sole Power, G Force and Muthmir all lined up with form good enough to go close in an average King's Stand; in the event, however, none of that trio ran up to their best, and it was a couple of big-priced runners that fought out a tight finish, that one of them is an exposed 9-y-o suggesting this form falls short of the high-class standard that might normally be expected of a Group 1 sprint; the pace focused behing Take Cover towards the far-side flank but it wasn't especially strong and the first 3 were all well in touch by halfway, the hold-up tactics employed on the fourth and fifth not ideal in the circumstances, while a high draw seemed a disadvantage with the runners on that side not getting a tow into the race.
