Often won by a Group horse in the making, this year's renewal of the Britannia somewhat differs given the winner, War Envoy, was actually dropping down in grade and benefited from ideal conditions to show a level of form of which he's clearly been thought capable of since first stepping into Group company when third in the Coventry Stakes at this meeting last year; typically for this type of event those in and around the frame look ahead of their marks; as expected, the field split, the smaller group in stalls 1-14 faring best, with 5 of the first 6 home heading that way out of the gates, and the most notable hard-luck stories were a couple of fancied runners further back in the near-side pack.
