An unusually large field for the St James's Palace Stakes is indicative of the openness of this year's top 3-y-o races at 1m, plenty willing to take their chance, and, as with the Guineas at Newmarket, the Curragh and Longchamp, this is a substandard renewal in what has so far been a substandard year for 3-y-o colts as a whole, Camelot aside of course; Wrote ensured that the gallop was sound and it looks a solid result amongst the principals, but there were at least a couple that raced off the pace that would have finished closer but for trouble occuring in the straight, The Nile sadly breaking down and causing problems for some just as the race was beginning in earnest, shortly after the home turn.
